If you’re a local weed enthusiast, you’re probably quite familiar with something known as CBD oil. Also known as Cannabidiol, it has been used for quite some time but what exactly is it and what are the risks and benefits of it? That’s what we’ll be exploring. If you walk into a hemp oil store, you’ll clearly see that hemp is similar but not exactly the same. Cannabidiol is a cannabinoid that occurs naturally and is one of 113 cannabinoids that have been identified in various hemp plants. Over the years, many researchers have studied its effects to discover whether or not it has any health benefits.
It is helpful in a lot more ways than you thought
While CBD is part of the cannabis plant, it does have different effects than marijuana and, unlike THC, it is not psychoactive. THC is known for its mind-altering effects which occur when it’s exposed to large amounts of heat and subsequently ingested into the body. So what are some of the benefits of taking CBD? Well, it is commonly used in the form of an over the counter drug to treat pain and stiffness, including chronic pain. Many researchers and experts agree it’s a more natural way to decrease and treat chronic pain. There is even evidence to support the hypothesis that CBD may be instrumental in helping people to quit smoking. They’ve done studies on CBD’s effect on combating addiction and found it may be used to reduce withdrawal symptoms.
It’s even studied for its possible role in being able to treat epilepsy as well as neuropsychiatric disorders.
What Studies Say
Some new studies have been performed and they’ve found that CBD appears to have anti-seizure properties. It has also been found to treat many other neurological disorders such as neurodegeneration, neuronal injury and many other psychiatric disorders. It’s even being studied for its possible use as an effective treatment for cancer. They recently posted a review in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology which seems to indicate this particular compound has the potential to prevent the growth of cancer cells.
It also seems to help to eradicate these types of cells. Researchers have found it may be instrumental in fighting cancer due to its extremely low levels of toxicity. It’s even been found to be effective in treating anxiety disorders. A recent review from Chemotherapeutic seems to indicate CBD may help to decrease anxiety in such patients who have post-traumatic stress disorder, general anxiety disorders, panic disorders, social anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s even been found to reduce inflammation commonly associated with Type 1 Diabetes and has been found to decrease the production of sebum in the body which leads to breakouts of acne. They’ve also found it may be able to treat Alzheimer’s disease.
The Legality Issue
However, the legality of consuming CBD is a bit shaky depending on what state you’re currently residing in. So the next time you go into a hemp oil store, make sure to get CBD.
